Acupuncture and Infertility

Infertility is diagnosed when a couple has been trying to get pregnant for 1 year without success.

Recent research suggests, 1 in 10 couples suffer from this condition causing them to seek

treatment. Some of these treatments are very invasive, not to mention the cost. So, how can

acupuncture help?

For both men and women, infertility could be caused by an excess condition causing a blockage

in the process of pregnancy or a deficient condition meaning the body is not strong enough to

produce the sperm or in the woman case not able to produce the egg or hold the embryo. By

asking specific questions, palpating the abdomen and feeling the pulse it is possible to diagnose

what is causing the infertility. By inserting very fine needles in specific locations it is possible to

strengthen the bodies deficiencies, move any blockages and subdue any excess, restoring the

body to its natural balance of mind, body and spirit causing a feeling of wellbeing. This

restoration will promote fertility.

So much of the research out there suggests that stress is the number one cause of infertility,

disrupting the delicate balance between the hypothalamus, pituitary, and reproductive glands.

Stress is capable of preventing a woman from ovulating or create spasms in her reproductive

organs which interfere with movement and implantation of a fertilized egg. In men, stress can

alter sperm counts, motility, and cause impotence. Acupuncture can increase fertility by

reducing stress, balancing the hypothalamus, pituitary, and reproductive glands. This would also

provide better blood flow to the reproductive organs resulting in higher sperm count, and

stronger chance for an egg to be nourished and carried to term.

If you have been struggling with infertility, why not start acupuncture treatments?

The side effects are a feeling of less stress, better sleep and more energy.
